WASHINGTON (AP) — A mayor whose town sits on the U.S. border with Mexico wants federal lawmakers to provide more money for border agents and dogs to help curb cross-border trafficking of drugs, guns and humans.Asking the U.S. Senate to help on this is a JOKE.
Chad Foster, mayor of Eagle Pass, Texas, says President Obama's budget request for 2010 doesn't have enough money for key border needs.
In remarks prepared for delivery to a Senate subcommittee on Wednesday, Foster says an additional 1,600 Customs and Border Protection officers and 400 canine units are needed along the nation's southwestern border to stop illegal immigration and the smuggling of arms, drugs and money.
The mayor and other border officials, along with federal immigrations and border officials, are due to appear before the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on immigration, refugees and border security.

Local officials to ask senators for border security funds
Texas Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison both CLAIM to be Conservative Republicans, that is a bald, open faced LIE. Both are, at best, RINOs of the 1st order. At worst, both of them are just more Arlen Specter wannabes.
Hutchison is an AMNESTY supporter and has serious issues with border security, actually having border security that is. She made that abundantly clear some time back, Hutchison has fought long and hard to stop a border fence from being built on the U.S. side of the Mexican border, Hutchison on defensive over border fence and Hutchison was an ardent supporter of the Immigrant Dream Act, another *back door* attempt at amnesty for ILLEGALS, Immigrant ‘Dream’ Act Fails Key Senate Vote.
Senators are expected to ask about the surveillance technology being used in remote areas between border crossings, law enforcement operations and what is being done to stem illegal immigration.Might I make a suggestion? How about these Senators, including Hutchison and Cornyn, our Texas Senators, get off of their lazy asses and spend a few nights riding shotgun with the U.S. Border Patrol. Maybe Janet Napolitano needs to work a few shifts at a border crossing, or ride a few days, on horseback, taking a 1st hand look at what REAL law enforcement is, and what it's members are facing!
The Obama administration has promised to crack down on border violence and work with Mexican authorities against drug cartels. Hundreds of federal agents, along with high-tech surveillance gear and drug-sniffing dogs, are being deployed to the Southwest.Work WITH the Mexicans? Seriously? Doesn't Obama realize that most of the money that the U.S. has sent to Mexico to be used for work against the drug cartels has ended up in the hands OF the drug cartels?
Sending hundreds of federal agents, along with high-tech surveillance gear and drug-sniffing dogs to help secure the border is a great thing, a marvelous effort, in theory. Our TAX base is over taxed as is. Our prison systems are FULL. Do we really want to catch, and lock up, for several years, these Mexican and Central/South American drug smugglers? Do we really want to place that increased tax burden on the citizens of this nation? The burden of housing, feeding, guarding and providing medical care for the animals that smuggle their poisons into this nation?
I suppose the bleeding heart libbers do. I suppose certain faux Conservatives may support these worthless pieces of humanity being given a vacation at Club Fed, but I don't. Secure our borders, man those borders with the troops that are being wasted in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and Germany, bring them home and let them do the job that must be done.
Secure our borders and protect the American people. It's NOT that hard to figure out, you've just got to have the guts to get the job done. Sadly, it's been many years since we had an American president, or senators and congressmen, with that kind of guts. They all seem to be too concerned with political correctness and getting re-elected, that is, after all, a lot more important that doing the job they were sent to Washington to actually DO!
