A Christian Zionist?
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
****************
I didn't set out to become a Christian Zionist, but apparently, I wound up as one.
Christian
Zionism is the belief that Israel has a right to return and establish a
nation exactly where she has, and further, she has the right to
continue to exist there.
There are multitudes of Christian
Zionist round the world and a throng of them exist in America,
especially within the evangelical churches.
I'm
not an evangelical, though raised as a youth within the evangelical
community. Like so many other things in my life I decided that
particular practice of my faith did not suit me. I found that I
preferred the liturgical type worship services and in my mid-twenties
became an active member of a liturgical church, one of the mainline
denominations in America, indeed, the world.
However, within
the last quarter century that church has been sucked into the leftist
"social justice" (Marxist, Communist) philosophy and its reliance on the
scriptures alone for guidance and instruction on all things has been
supplanted by Marxist, statist theology.
I left the church.
I am a "sola scriptura"
type of fellow. I was not then, and am not now, about to compromise
and substitute my faith for the intellect of a group of egg-headed
elitists at the hierarchy of the church.
As such, I believe that when God told Abraham, “I
will bless those who bless you and I will curse those who curse you and
in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3) He meant it!
If you have any doubt of the veracity of that statement, from God Himself, then I advise you to look at America today. We're in a rapid decline, in a mess in every way that matters.
It is my unwavering belief that as long as the Obama Regime is in power in America, America will continue to decline.
The US President, B. Hussein Obama has proven time and again that he is no friend to Israel ... at all. The US is paying a price for his blasphemy.
Now
here's the thing (as they say). When America suffers -- the whole of
the planet suffers. Just consider the wars and rumors of war all around
the globe today. Our long-time enemy, Russia, is all but thumbing its
nose in Obama's face, making a complete fool of our President and our,
oh, so dignified diplomats.
Eastern Europe is aflame. Africa
is in a perpetual state of war. The Middle East has brother fighting
brother in numerous countries, and South America is tearing itself apart
over socialism/communism as civil war looms in several countries to our
south.
Here in America, as I write this piece, armed American
citizens are gathering and facing off with armed government agents in a
dispute that has all the makings of a tipping point for all out
rebellion in our own country.
The
very earth, itself, is revolting with earthquakes in diverse place.
The Americans who live along America's "left" (west) coast, the most
liberal part of America, must feel much as the citizen's of ancient
Pompeii felt as they awaited their death and destruction dealt out by
"natural" forces. Its not even a question of "if" but of "when."
Do
I consider this pay back? Not really. This is just, in my
assessment, merely the beginning of curses we must endure as a result
of our own hard-headed, stubborn belief that we know better how to run
things on this little mud ball floating in space. We've decided we can
ignore history including the scriptures, and do things our way, because
all that old history stuff doesn't mean squat any more.
Here,
in America, we've decided we can simply ignore that old constitution
which was, after all, written by old, rich, white guys. Somehow, we
neglect to remember that those old, rich, white guys knew exactly what
they were doing -- and -- had the common sense to ask for God's guidance
in formulating that document. They even left the building of meeting ,
walked down the street to a church, en mass, and there pled for
guidance from the Almighty.
Honestly, can you see the American leadership doing that today?
Scripture, itself sums up today's American leadership nicely:
"Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the
incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man ..." Romans 1:23-24.
The
point of my rambling here is to point out just how far removed we, as a
people, are from our ancestors who began this grand experiment called
America.
Look. Distancing ourselves from the Holy Scriptures has certainly NOT served this nation well.
As
evidence, all one has to do, really, to understand the reason there
will be no lasting peace deal between Israel and the so-called
Palestinians is read the scriptures. If you are unused to the Bible
allow me to assure you that there is invaluable history within its pages
that is often the key to understanding contemporary problems between
nations today.
Just
a quick example: The land given Israel by God stretches from the banks
of the Nile River in Egypt to the Euphrates River in Iraq. (Someday we'll write about Israel's real northern and southern boundaries. But not today.)
So.
What if Israel told everyone in Jordan, the western part of Iraq, the
Sinai, and the eastern part of Egypt to get out, to get off Israel's
land? Of course, there'd be war! Everyone currently living in those
areas (I just mentioned) are there at the sufferance of the people of
Israel. They're squatters, interlopers. And yet, Israel puts up with
them.
Along come US diplomats and UN diplomats demanding that Israel give up more land to the squatters.
Do you begin to understand why Israel believes it is slowly being pushed into the Mediterranean Sea?
And so, some have labeled me as a Christian Zionist. I will happily accept that -- and wear its badge with pride.
