Morning in America -- or -- Red Dawn? ... J. D. Longstreet

Morning in America -- or -- Red Dawn?
Restoration or Revolution?
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

At least a part of the title of this piece will apply to tomorrow's sunrise.

My South Carolina ancestors must have felt the way I feel (at this writing) on the eve of the 1860 election. It, too, was held on November 6th. They held their collective breath knowing that if the election went one way they'd be OK.  They also knew if the election went the other way (for Lincoln) the country would be split and there would be war. (The election was split between four candidates -- Lincoln, Stephen A. Douglas (Northern Democrat), John C. Breckinridge (Southern Democrat), and John Bell of the Constitutional Union party. Lincoln won with only 180 electoral votes out of the 303 total electoral votes of that period.)  The dye was cast.

There can be no doubt that as we wait out the returns from today's election, the stakes are the same as they were in 1860.

The US is as divided as it was that November.  Emotions are at a fever pitch threatening to drive Americans into the streets at the slightest provocation.

EVERYTHING is at stake today.  The very continued existence of the United States of America, just as in 1860, is in question.  The only thing NOT in question is whether America can survive with Obama in office again.  The answer is a resounding NO

The naivete of the left seems to extend to the belief that those of us on the political right will simply accept a communist America.  That's not going to happen.

If Obama is reelected, it will mark the beginning of a monumental struggle between Americans that will rival that of 1861 to 1865 in its ferocity.  It will be vicious and unrelenting as all conflicts between fellow countrymen are.

Eventually it will end -- with the birth of a new nation.  Either there will be a complete communist dictatorship of America, or a constitutional republic like unto the old America. Both cannot survive on the same continent.

Again, the political left has underestimated the conviction of the right that their cause is just and the depths of the right's loyalty to the US Constitution.  The right is loyal to no man -- ever.

Methinks the Obama Regime foresaw the possible uprising of "Constitutional Americans" and that explains the secret covert, clandestine, surreptitious, stockpiling of arms and ammunition, not by the US military, but by government agencies loyal to Obama.

See, Obama and the left intend(s) to win this election -- whatever the cost.   The cost may, indeed, be far more than they ever counted on.

I read somewhere recently that American citizens own more weapons than all the armies of the world combined.   Now you know why.

The American citizen is the first line of defense against a despotic government in America.  Our forefathers made that clear.  An American dictator can survive only so long as it takes the American resistance to organize.
It is said-- and I might add that it is absolutely true -- that those who do not know and heed history are doomed to repeat it. Those of my generation who understand that history is the great teacher that prevents repeated mistakes, are taken aback at how little modern American know of their past.  It is doubtful they have any idea that they are making history, one way or the other, today.

I have warned many times, that the current government is making the same mistakes the US government made in the first half of the 19th century which led to the American Civil War.  The Obama Administration, just like the Lincoln Administration, pushed the constitutional limits too far. The nation blew up in Lincoln's face. Why would any rational person believe the same thing will not happen again?

Depending upon the course the nation takes today, the end result could very well be the same.

The parallels are all there.  The similarities are such that it is frightening.  But so little is known today of the truth of that era in America that, for the most part, Americans do not recognize the warning signs.

I remarked to a friend recently that I think I have, at least, a tenuous grasp on how the

pamphleteers of the 1700's in America must have felt as they penned their warnings to
Pamphleteer
the British Crown and to the colonists of thirteen American colonies.  They saw the conflict coming, did their best to alert both the king and the colonists, that the path the crown had taken would, indeed, MUST lead to war. The rest, as they say, is history.

President Obama and King George both share the same "tin ear" when it comes to the pleas of the people.  One was certifiably crazy and the other is drunk on power.  In the end, the result will be the same -- a conflagration, the likes of which,  neither ever imagined.

So, what will it be America?  Restoration or revolution?  That is the question before the American people today.  Will November 6th 2012, be any different than November 6th 1860?

Make no mistake:  Today we are deciding whether America remains free or bows its knee and its neck to the chains of socialism and communism.  Really, it is just as simply as that.

From my perspective, it is gut-wrenching to see so many Americans voluntarily commit themselves to slavery, many whose ancestors were literally in chains just 150 years ago.  What makes a person, a free person, so insecure that he gives up his liberty, his freedom,  for the thin promise, only a promise,  of a crust of bread.  Is it not better to die free than live as a slave?

Either America is made whole today, or America dies today.  If America dies today, freedom dies today. THAT is the choice before us.

Pray that freedom takes the day and America lives.
